This project consists of a master bedroom suite addition to a home for a couple who are prolific art collectors. The design solution developed around the desire to open up the master bedroom and bath to the garden, while maintaining privacy to the neighbors and the street and providing for the owners’ desire to expand available wall space for art.
The massing of the addition creates and defines a private courtyard that is used to curate sculpture and entertain. The corrugated skin of the addition picks up on the existing corrugated roof, while the black steel trim at a deeply recessed window is referential to several of the metal sculptures in the collection.
