2019 AIA Albuquerque – Merit Award (General Design)
Designed and built with Studio Collaboration, the massing of the Professional Development Center for the Albuquerque Public Schools responds to two conditions; a finish floor datum set by the elevated parking deck, and the floating canopy of the roof structure. The programmatic volumes of the building are nested between these conditions.
The programmatic core of the Professional Development Center is the large central meeting and training space flanked by break-out rooms, an internal courtyard, and wide flexible concourses. The central meeting space emulates an internal community town square or a plaza where a multitude of events, conversations, and activities can occur simultaneously. Courtyards and landscaped terrace elements provide informal meeting and instruction spaces while augmenting the daylight and natural ventilation within the building.
This 45,000 square foot building was completed in 2018 and is received LEED Gold certification.
